Day 2 – Jungfraujoch
A tour to the Jungfraujoch is certainly a highlight of every trip to Switzerland. From the Grindelwald train station, the Jungfrau Railway takes you to the Jungfraujoch in a contemplative cog-wheel speed. Even the ride itself is a highlight. First, the train climbs through colorful mountain meadows to Kleine Scheidegg. From there the railway line crosses the Eiger north face to the 3,454 meter high Jungfraujoch.
Once at the top, the view sweeps over the largest glacier in the Alps, the Aletsch Glacier. On the other side, the view extends into the Mittelland up to the Vosges.
If you feel like it, get off on the Kleine Scheidegg on the return journey, strengthen yourself on the terrace of the Belle Epoque Hotel Bellevue des Alpes and hike to Männlichen (1h20). The Männlichenbahn will take you back to Grindelwald.
Day 3 – Grindelwald First
This day takes you to the side of the valley opposite your hotel. Walk or take the hotel shuttle to the valley station of the First-Bahn. This brings you gently up to Grindelwald First in 25 minutes.
The overwhelming panorama makes your heart beat faster. That can only outdo the First cliffwalk. At dizzying heights, the cliffwalk protrudes 45 meters out to nowhere.
More contemplative, but no less spectacular, is the circular route to the Bachalpsee (approx. 1h40). The picturesque mountain lake lies at 2,265 m altitude and offers a magnificent view of the Wetterhorn, Schreckhorn and Finsteraarhorn.
Day 4 – Männlichen
After a hearty breakfast at the Hotel Aspen, you are well prepared for today’s hiking day.
The Männlichenbahn takes you to the mountain station at 2,228m in a few minutes. From here it is just 30 minutes via the Royal Walk to the summit of the Männlichen at 2,345m. You can expect a stunning view of the Lauterbrunnen Valley, Grindelwald Valley, the ice giants Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau and towards Lake Thun.
After a refreshment at the Berghaus Männlichen, take the panorama path to the Kleine Scheidegg (1h20). The Jungfrau Railway will take you back to Grindelwald Grund.
Day 5 – Schilthorn
By car or the Bernese Oberland train you go to Lauterbrunnen, the eponymous place at the beginning of the valley of the 72 waterfalls. From here, the gondola lift you up to Grütschalp. A hiking trail with a magnificent view of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau leads you to Mürren (1h30). The terrace of the Hotel Eiger invites you to take a break with a refreshing drink.
A few steps through the village and you get to the Schilthornbahn and it goes up to 2,970 m.
If you can break away from the overwhelming view, the gondola takes you back to Mürren. Then take the cogwheel train or the gondola for your way back to Lauterbrunnen via Grütschalp.
Day 6 – Interlaken and Lake Thun
Interlaken, nestled between Lake Brienz and Lake Thun, at the foot of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, is a magnet for tourists from all over the world.
Stroll along imposing Belle Epoque hotels, stylish designer boutiques and souvenir shops. Take a break on one of the many benches and watch the hang gliders and paragliders, coloring the sky over the city.
Then you board the ferry and enjoy the tranquility of Lake Thun. In Spiez you should stop your journey and enjoy the perhaps most beautiful bay in Europe. Here, Schloss Spiez awaits you with its baroque flower and herb garden. A half-hour walk along the waterfront brings you to Faulensee where you can take the ship back to Interlaken.
